Treasures

The Treasury The new Crypt Treasury opened on Saturday 24 March 2012. Opening times will be Monday to Saturday 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and Sundays from 12.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. The treasury exhibition will trace the development of church plate over the centuries and an important exhibition of ancient books relating to the abbey of St Edmund. From mid-May the book exhibition will focus on books relating to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer (in its 350th anniverary year).

Of particular note in the Cathedral itself is the sculpture of the Crucified Christ by Dame Elisabeth Frink, the statue of the Madonna and Child by Leonard Goff, the Martyrdom of St Edmund: a painting by Brian Whelan, the tapestry depicting the visit of King Henry VI to the Shrine of St Edmund, and the gold and silver candlesticks and cross on the High Altar.
