Cathedral Library

The Cathedral Library
is in Abbey House, overlooking the Abbey Gardens. Managed by professional librarians, it is open for study and borrowing at regular times. This library combines in one catalogue a single collection from several sources:

The Anselm Library was formed by the Cathedral early in the 20th century and was later given to the Hengrave Community

The Hengrave Library was formed by the ecumenical Hengrave Community of Reconciliation at nearby Hengrave Hall from 1974 to 2006 and was then given to the Cathedral and Diocese

The Cathedral Congregational Library
was built up by the Cathedral staff and congregation between 1995 and 2006

The combined Library of some 8,000 volumes covers all the main disciplines of theology, biblical studies, spirituality, liturgy and religious studies, and most are available for borrowing. Current and past issues of many theological journals are also available for reference. You can find the library catalogue here.

The Library is open at the following times:
Sunday 11.15 a.m. – 12.15 p.m.
Tuesday 11.00 a.m – 4.00 p.m.
Thursday 11.00 a.m – 4.00 p.m.
Saturday opening 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 noon

The library is open to all for reading and reference at no charge. Library membership entitles you to borrow up to six books for up to four weeks: £10 renewable each September (free for students on diocesan, 'Faith and Worship' and CTF-affiliated courses). A library application form is available here.
