Cathedral Library
l Old Library
The Cathedral Library is in Abbey House, overlooking
the Abbey Gardens. Managed by professional librarians, it is open
for study and borrowing at regular times. This library combines in one
catalogue a single collection from several sources:
The Anselm Library was formed by the Cathedral early in the 20th
century and was later given to the Hengrave Community
The Hengrave Library was formed by the ecumenical Hengrave Community
of Reconciliation at nearby Hengrave Hall from 1974 to 2006 and was then
given to the Cathedral and Diocese
The Cathedral Congregational Library was built up by the Cathedral
staff and congregation between 1995 and 2006
The Diocesan Ministry Course Library is a modern collection built
up for the use of students on this Course of Ministerial Education
The combined Library of some 8,000 volumes covers all the main disciplines
of theology, biblical studies, spirituality, liturgy and religious studies,
and most are available for borrowing. Current and past issues of many
theological journals are also available for reference.
