Born in Hertfordshire in 1983, David Humphreys took up the organ aged 13
whilst a pupil at
St Albans
School
. He went on to study
at the Royal Academy of Music with David Titterington, whilst holding the
Organ Scholarship at All Saints, Margaret Street. He gained a First in his
final exams at the end of the Organ Foundation Course, and spent the
following year as Organ Scholar at St Albans Abbey, where he regularly
accompanied both the Cathedral Choir and the Abbey Girls Choir. Whilst there
he recorded a CD of romantic and modern organ music on the Lammas label,
which was released in January 2005 to good reviews.
On leaving
St Albans
he went up to
Jesus
College
,
Cambridge
, reading music and
holding the Organ Scholarship. With the college choirs he appeared on BBC
radio and television, undertook three European tours, and made several
successful CD recordings. He was also the principal conductor of the college
orchestra, with whom he undertook successful performances of a wide variety
of major orchestral repertoire, and won the college's Renfrew Prize for music
in his final year.
