Who's Who - The
Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich
Chapter l Council l Forum l Staff l Readers
The Bishop,The Right Reverend Nigel Stock, is the
principal clergyman of the diocese with oversight of its clergy
and people in a leadership, teaching and pastoral capacity. The
diocese is the group of parishes within an area largely identical
to a county. The Bishop has his chief seat or “cathedra”
in the mother church of the diocese, which, by virtue of the cathedra,
is called the cathedral. He attends many of the major services,
which take place at the Cathedral each year, including ordinations
when he makes new deacons and priests for service in the diocese.
He always presides and preaches at the Eucharist on Christmas Day
and Easter Day.
